19-year-old R&B chanteuse Lumidee, pronounced 'loomy d,' received very sudden attention with her summer 2003 jam 'Never Leave You.' At first, the hit may seem ultimately gimmicky, but further listening finds something original going on beneath the hooky exterior. The track begins with tribal beats delayed by a breathy, faltering, echoing vocal, hauntingly off-beat and otherworldly in the manner of those early House crossover hits from the mid-to-late-'80s.The rest of Lumidee's self-titled debut consists of serviceable, affable R&B made unique by the singer's halting, off-kilter, refreshingly unpredictable vocals, best showcased on a brief half-rapped, half-sung 'Suppose To Do,' a take on the 'Theme From Mahogany.'
Lumidee utilizes her child-like voice to disconcerting effect on 'Me & You' while summoning up her inner hardcore rapper on 'My Last Thug.' Busta Rhymes and Fabolous drop by, providing perfect foils for each other on the remix of 'Never Leave You.'

Japanese - Roughest HatmanPhilip Frazer - Morning Mr. Quote:Japanese - Roughest HatmanPhilip Frazer - Morning Mr. I'm looking for a reggae/roots/dub style song which I lost a few years ago and not had any luck finding. The song started off with a robotic voice the same as Soundwave from Transformers the cartoon for about 5 seconds.
It then continued into a beautiful reggae song, slightly dub like. There is another bit in the song later when the same robot voice re-appears for about the same amount of time.
I'm sure the first couple of lines in the song had the word 'rasta' in them. I think it was: rasta warrior, or rasta soldier. On the same tape which I'm 70% sure was made up were also Lee Perry's 'Jungle' and Jah Lion's 'Wisdom'.I hope somebody can help me with this. It's a great song.
Thank u so much! Woke up from a dream with a single repetitive verse from (one or two) reggae songs dating back to my childhood from the early/mid 1980's. The song(s) were sung by a man; i say plural because I'm not quite sure if the verse was a combination of two songs. The lyrics went something like this: 'rude layday. RUDE LADAYYYYyyeahhh.' Then I heard the verses 'I'm nobody's fool'!
It seemed to sound more of a love song, with a mellow, motown/jive vibe, and the artist singing had a Caribbean accent, as well as his back up singers, giving off that reggae vibe!Would anyone from back in those days (quite possibly from the baby boomer generation), know who may've sang that? I do remember my stepfather had a Reggae record album that was royal blue in color, and on the front cover of the album was a photo of crystal pyramid! I absolutely adored that album, but because I was so young, I don't remember the artist of that album, or if the song from my dream is likely related to that album.Any help on this one? Would love to add the song to my growing collection on iTunes. Can any of you guys help me out here? I have an awesome old track in my head but can't find it anywhere. I grew up in the 80's so around that timeframe with the lyrics;'Oh what a hell when you end up in a jailhouse, wo yoi'Say what a tribulation when you end up on a curfew, wo yoi bad boy'Bad boy mind, you end up in a jailhouse, wo yoi'The first time me say your gone in a jailhouse'The next time me say your gone on a curfew'The next time me say your gone in a penitentiary'Man you're gone rub a century'But your friends say it's better than the cemetery'Sort me out guys:-). Hi,I ended up on this Forum because I was looking for a tune I do not know the name of, or the Artiste. The tune was on a mixed tape I bought sometime between 2000 to 2003 lyrics were like:' jump and shout (yeh) put up your hands and jump and shak out,(yeh) junior Rodney running the route,(Yeh) this is a new fashion a brand new style'.etc etc. With a wicked Bass line, now it was just a mix not the entire tune, I have been through your list, or should I say very Impressive list, but still cannot find that tune.
Could you help me please. ^^^^ Completely disagree with the above statement in regards to 90s riddims being all based on 80s riddims. Just curious, how old are you? SOME not all 90s riddims are derivatives of 80s tunes but just like it was for Hip-Hop the 90s was the golden era for Dancehall. Classic riddims from this time period include:ShowtimePlaygroundFilthyTattie DancePepperseedArab AttackI could go on and on. Remember this is also the time period that producers like Steely & Clevie, Ward 21 (late 90s), Jeremy Harding, Tony Kelly & his brother Dave Kelly dominated. This was also the time period where artist started experimenting more (Beenie Man's 'Nuff Gal' and Buccaneer's 'Sketel Concerto' were two HUGE genre bending records of the 90s)I'll agree and say the production of today is not up to standard but there are still a few people out there producing solid riddims (Snowcone & Ward just to name two).
Can any one help me please? I am looking for 2 reggae songs. It has been over 20 yrs since I have heard them. I think they were on a strictly reggae ablum or something like that. Songs go something like this.(she's a dangerous woman with dangerous eyes & if your looking for trouble she will cool you tonight.34, 24, 36.)something like that. The other song goes. (Give it up, give up the loving cause she don't want no more from you cause I can do what you can't do.) I keep thinking maybe Tiger or cobra or someone like that sings one of them.
Thanks for any info. Love this thread!!! Ive been looking for 2 songs now for what feels like YEARSSS. Im hoping somebody can help me.The first one i thought sounds like Elephant Man, but im not sure. All the song says is something 'Ay yayayaya ay ya ay ya ' and thats about all i can remember it says.
Not many lyrics to it, just a fast paced song to dance to. I think he says Jamaica first before he breaks out with the 'Ay yayay ay ya ay ayaya'. They usually play it in dancehall clubs/ events for twerking competitions for a few seconds until they move on to the next girl. The next song ive been looking for it for AGESSSS. Im not sure who sings it but whoever the artist is reminds me of Lukie D for some reason, his voice. The lyrics go something like chorus: ' which gyal liked, which gyal cool, who got the silver, who got the cool, tell me ah yuh, tell me ah yuuuuuh oohVerse: 'Never seen a body lookin like yuh.(forgotten lyrics).cuz everything you wear you know its brand new.
Nobody couldnt take your placeee.(forgotten lyrics). And then the chorus again. If i can atleast find the riddim ill be able to find the track. Nicky B's Mi Wah Fi Know is also recorded on that particular riddim but its NOT Crystal Clear Riddim like the original Nicky B song. Anyone pleaseeeeeeeee?!??! Hey guys and gurus I need help locating a few songs from back in the late 80's, if possible I would like to get the mp3 files, 1.Life Muddup- Peter Metro 2. Winner - fragga ranks 3. Sorry Part 2 - junior rodigan, and the last one I dont know artist or name of song but its on the ' you should have known riddim' and the chorus goes - see dem ah see dem ah see dem ah run come, watch how the girls them come fi have some fun.
Bulla john aslo sang rod of correction on that version of that riddim, thx in advance. This forum is amazing, I think all of my favorites are listed.Sister Nancy, Dawn Penn, Althea & Donna, Lady Saw, Yellowman, Buju Banton, Terror Fabulous, Barrington Levy.I just made a mix and about half the songs and almost all of them were already listed.I have one to add: Frighty & Colonel Mite - Life (Is What You Make It).I also have a song, that I loved in the 90s but it could be from any time period before that. I taped if from a Sunday radio reggae show that I always listened to.
But I did not get the artist. It is a female singer, and my memory might be a bit foggy but it goes something like this.' Best Friend, me no want best friend.she lena wan a best friend.Me no want best friend. Di di di di!Let me tell you story 'bout the girl lived next door to me.What her name again.oh yeah.Nancy.She had a best friend.and she moved in closely.' Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
Quote:Hi Folks. There was a song done either I believe in the 80s about a school teacher welcoming her students back to school after the summer holidays where she asks each of them what they did over the holidays. The chorus was 'roll a little spliff and take a whiff.' Could any of you guys pls help with the title and/or artist?Did you find out who this tune was I was looking for it too?
Bigga Bounce Ent did answer but the link doesn't workthanks RFDRita Marley - One Draw (Extended Version). Somebody who is familiar with reggae songs from the 60's or 70's please help me. I was listening to a Reggae station in the area of Clifton, NJ and I didn't look at the name of the station. I did note the time as 7:30 pm when they played a fantastic song. At the end I caught the D.J say it was from a female artist no longer alive called SHIRLEY?
I didn't catch the last name. He said the song was called.' The only lyric that stands out is 'I've got a fire burning in my soul.' The song is really beautiful and sounds like the soulful female singers of the 60s.
Please help me find this song! I agree, so much music,I live in Brooklyn NY (not what it was in the 80's-90's)i grew up on all this digital dancehall music. But its very hard to find.ironically in Panama I can find all this music with little effort.on you tube, search 'la tanda del bus' for so many Panamanian selectorsjuggling all these tunes. This was the music the that was played on the private bus routesin Panama. 5am listening to Ninja Man, Flouergon, or Courtney Melondy in a painted school bus with house speakers kicking bass on the back of your head.Ahhhhh that brings me back. Forgot 1 more. Im almost pretty sure its from Barrington Levy. All i remember is that he says 'swiiiiing. Swiddley daddley diddley woooooooah'. I checked Broader than Broadway, but thats definitely not the same beat i remember. Im thinking maybe some other artist took that part from the song, when Barrington sings 'swingggg, woah' and added it one of their own songs? Kind of like a tribute or a remix to him??
Ahhhhh im at a losses end with this one. I cant think of any other songs with a tribute to the great Barrington Levy. Maybe a dancehall or hip hop song?? Thanks again yall. Quote:Forgot 1 more.

There was a song that I can't remember but I believe it is titled 'memories'. I can't remember the artist name too. He was a dark fellow. There was a music video for it too. It went something like:Some girls will always be your friendTrust them and they become your problemNo matter what you tell me - pleaseEven go down on your kneesThe way you touch meThe way you hold meWay you kiss me-Memories, Memories, Those are just memoriesThere was another song too that I can't remember.
It was more of a rap song but it was like a hindi song ft. I need to find two tracks from the nineties, the first i think is a certain version of a choon i believe to be some kinda remix or cover of Garnett Silk's 'I am vex' the riddim is just a little more heavy, more militant kinda ragga vibe! And I don't think it's Garnett toastin' either, but I'm not 100% sure. This next one now, might be a bit more difficult. It's got a kinda uptempo beat (the beat is supreme on this particular version I'm searching for). The vocalist is talking bout the man with the rubber leg that lives up in the hill (maybe mountain?)That comes down from the hill just to fight like a kung fu man style.!?!?Please, if anyone can help me to find these two tunes i would most appreciate it.Thanks. There was a song's music video that used to play on cross caribbean countdown back in like 2004 on Tempo. I believe it was titled 'memories'. The man who sang it looked like Richie Stephens but I do not know if it is.
It goes something like:-Pre-chorus-(Some girls will always be your friend) You Trust them and they become your problemNo matter what you tell me baby pleaseEven go down on your kneesThe way you touch me (touch me)The way you hold me (hold me)Way you kiss me (kiss me)Oh girl - memoriesmemorieeees-Chorus-Memories, Memories, Those are just memories (Those are just) x3Those are juuuuust. I remember this reggae song but don't know the name or artist and can't find it anywhere online:Nuff a them a bad boy,Oh gosh,Nuff a dem a say that them a rude boy.Easy fool make no riot,David use a stone and kill Goliath,So don't run down badness you see,A small ax cut down big tree, chorus:Don't bother fire no gun,Come in a the dance to have fun,Don't bother fire no gun,Come in a the dance to have fun,Badness is pure addition,it will get your conviction,So please, so please,Stop you action,You might be drawing a lot of attraction. I was in total despair when I found Dr. My life was going terrible and I didn't know if I was coming or going.
I had just gone through a rough divorce, wasn't making enough money to sustain me and my children, and my 17 year old son had just gone to jail for the first time. When I talked to him, I immediately found a sense of peace. He was very honest with me and I could feel that. He also told me that everything would be okay. After my work began, things began to change. My bills were all caught up, the relationship I was in became much stronger, I was never FLAT broke, and my son was released from jail earlier than we expected!!
I also completely got over the failed marriage and began to move on. And, received a better position at my job which will cause an $800 per month increase!! I felt completely comfortable with the work that was being done because I was always encouraged by Dr. Com is the BEST!!!! Hi, I have really enjoy reading everyone's posts and listening to their selection.
I have collect sevens all my life and would love to share couple of real treasures. One is a version of Duke and His Ellingtons 1940's jazz track Caravan – it called Ska-a-van by the Skatalites.Another tune I truly love is called James Bond Girl it by Soul Brothers and has a jazz blue note, its a killer. It on the Ska Beat label.A tune which is really special to both me and my wife is by the Overtakers and it called Girl You Ruf - it sounds like an old barber shop quartet. There other big tune is on the B side of the Big Takeover which is 'That's the Way you like It' which is actually about a bitter break up! On Amalgamated Records.I have to leave you with one last track it a version of 'It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing' the dowop classic. It is by Ernest Rangling and it has such a ghostly background its like the opposite of the original and shows he is a master guitarist and it called 'Surfin' on Studio One.Another which is pretty hard to find is by Prince Buster and it call Dance Cleopatra on Blue Elephant with a great 1960's sleave. It basically a version of the biblical Joshua at the Battle of Jerico like the classic Sound Dimension track Rock Fort Rock on Studio One.That's why you have to check out Swing Easy by Soul Vendours on Coxsone.
It also has elements of 'Surfin' 'Rock Fort Rock; but kinda sounds like Jewish wedding music lol. Hello Friends. I remember the melody of reggae song but i don't know the name or artist.
I Only got the sound in my head for a few days ago, and i can't find it anywhere. Please help me!I think the Song name was something like ' black woman'.the Song beggins with a drum fill and sayn 'Woo ohh black woman i love you, black woman i need you, black woman i want you' ( something like that un bot sure). And then ( I will hum and invent the lyrics, because I do not know exactly) 'lara di girlfriend if you wanna be my lover, larara di girlfriend if you wanna ve together'.Anyone please? This is just a sample of what I consider tunes from the 'Golden Years' of Reggae.WhenRoots music was giving birth to Dancehall music and the whole scene was fresh, irie andinnovative! Some of the most iconic riddims and samples were created in this period! As a DJ/Selector.play this set for real Reggae lovers who know the history of the music and you will bring down the house as people bang on the walls, calling for a'REWIND!' With every track played. This is an impressive list and many more worthy tunes could and will be added, but for now this is a good start.Nuff Respect! JAH Rastafari!
Quote:Tanto Metro & Devonte - Say WhoeeeLove that song! Most every track from the Bookshelf riddim were and still are some of the best dancehall ever recorded/produced.Can't believe it's been 20 years! IMO the era from the mid 1990's to approx 2003 represents 'The Golden Age of Dancehall'.Great artists, tons of range and super prolific. I don't think there's another genre of music, anywhere in the world, which pumps out the amount of tunes that reggae artists continually do. I also love that reggae naturally balances itself out in this beautiful socially conscious way. When dancehall starts to trend a bit too far right with some extremism (like gun talk and 'fire ago bun dem' types of anthems) it's often answered with a revival of more socially uplifting, foundation style roots-rock dancehall.During the mid 90's through the next decade, we also got to see artists like Capleton, Sizzla, Buju, etc grow up and show a much stronger Rasta belief system, which obviously shines through in their lyrics. Their earlier works are amazing (Mr. Mention has hit after hit after hit) but as DJs and fans we get to watch the artists grow up into the men they wanna be.
Not everyone had the gift like Garnett Silk to have a certain maturity from the gate. He is still missed, but thankfully left a huge amount of tunes for us to still enjoy! And others like Tony Rebel and Luciano have always seemed to have that balance inside of them.Glad I found this discussion board linked to Serato.Nice to talk with people who have knowledge and passion for reggae and dancehall in the same way I do! Nuff Respect!!!! I am trying to track down the name and artist of a reggae song I used to listen to from a mix CD that I bought at the Caribbean festival in Atlanta GA circa 2012. One of the songs - the one that played right after the song I’m trying to remember - on the mix CD is Barrington Levy “Black Roses”In the song the guy talks about paying child support and then discovering that his baby mother spent $1000 on a haircut. “A thoisand dollaz for a haircut!” he exclaims. The song has a comedic storytelling style to it.Anyone know this song? Good people,Im looking for a beautiful track with its version, done by a lady, probably released in the 70s. In the song the lady calls herself sister.Chan.(something like that) and she says 'I sister chan.me no tell no lie' In other lyrics of the song she says, vitamin in the morning, protein in da evening, exercise mi no tell no lie. At the beginning of the song she says something like, 'Look after your.(not sure) In the version of the song, what is played most is the drum and some echoesplease please please.

I have been searching for 2 tracks for almost 40 years.
I hear these on the Gil Bailey show in NYC around 1979 or 1980.One is 'Killing Me Softly' I believe the artist is Sister (something or other). Of course searching for 'Killing Me Softly Reggae' brings up a million hits for Fugees. Although I like that version as well, but I really love the one I am looking for.The other is a song about leaves and sweeping up the yard. I don't know the title or artist, but they lyrics are as follows (Americanized) The breeze starts blowing through the trees-es, and blow off a lots of leaves-es, and blow them off in my yards-es, that I man could not believes-es.I had taped the show those songs were on and have been listening to that tape for the last 40 years or so and it's gotten pretty worn. I did create a FLAC file of it recently.I would be greatful for any info on these 2 tunes. Hi everyone, really could use the forum's help to identify a song my Dad and I love and have been trying to ID for years. Dad passed away last February - and I would very much like to find the artist of the song which he pulled from the radio sometime in the late 80's, maybe early 90's.The song (or songs) have at least two distinct vocalists, one very young sounding, the second very mature.
The clip that we have captured begins with a younger voice singing “to you, this one dedicated to you/ to you and especially you”Then, a more mature voice sings what sounds like “praise Jah in this century” then “praise Him for his mighty hands”. Then “so I will say farewell to all Babylon world”Then the younger singer “rock it in a rub-a-dub style”then “the people dem a fight, the people dem a scream, the people dem a say”Last part we can make out – “me tell a this one a murdererme tell this one is international”.I have the clip available here:Please help?:). I'd really like some help in identifying a track I have, but don't know who its. I would guess its called Frankenstein and includes these lyrics:Frankenstein, children of the 79Frankenstein was a great shoe-shineHe'll bite out your blood-lineAnd dont fear if your a good or bad manOh if you're rich or you're poor just let me close the doorCos Frankenstein is here just to settle a scoreEase up FrankieDont brutalise your neighbours donkey.Oh my God, here he comes.(at least that's some of them)Any clues? - I've searched for tracks called Frankenstein but none come close - I first heard it on the John Peel show back in the 80's.R.
